As part of the new Google Drive, we are updating Drive’s viewer. The new viewer is faster, cleaner and provides easier ways to connect with third-party Drive apps. It also brings a unified viewing experience across Drive content and Gmail attachments. Note that as part of this change we will remove support for adding file-level commenting of non-Google file formats. This change doesn’t impact comments in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and existing comments on non-Google formats will be retained and available to view. A few weeks ago at Google I/O, Docs, Sheets and Slides got a major upgrade — making it even easier for you to get work done at the office and on-the-go with Google Apps. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of how you can edit Office files, make Suggested Edits and a new ability to convert tracked changes to Suggested Edits:  Edit and share Office files — without Office  Technology is changing the way people work, but all that change can cause friction when employees are using different software. That’s why we made it possible to edit Office files directly in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, so you can open and edit those documents in their native format using Office Compatibility Mode. No need to buy additional software or think about how to open your file. The Docs, Sheets and Slides mobile apps come with Office editing built right in, and with the Chrome extension, you can edit and share files directly from Google Drive or Gmail.

The New Google Sheets is coming to Scheduled release domains   Back in December we announced the launch of the new Google Sheets for Rapid Release domains. This new version is faster and can support larger spreadsheets.  Over the next couple of weeks, Scheduled release domain users will automatically be upgraded to the new Sheets. Spreadsheets created after the upgrade will use the new version. We will begin upgrading Scheduled Release Track domains starting on April 21st 2014 on a slow roll-out taking place over 3-4  days. It may take a few days before it's available in your domain. This upgrade does not affect existing spreadsheets and only relates to any new spreadsheets created. The user will not see any prompts about the new Sheets unless they create a new spreadsheet. Feature differences between the old and new sheets are explained in this support article.
