Grace Grit Growth

Nicole Woodward, our Director of Special Education, set the tone for the school year with three words. Following are excerpts from her message:

“So here we are in the fall of 2020, a new set of challenges, but with a load of experience and learning under our belts. We know what worked for us last year, but there is an incredible amount of learning, planning, adjusting, and pivoting that needs to take place, and if we’re going to get through it, we need some additional tools. So we are asking everyone to extend grace. No one is an expert in this, we are all learning and there is no way to get it all right all the time. We will make mistakes and we’re going to need loads of grace. Grace for yourself, grace for your colleagues and grace for leadership. We also know that it is going to be a lot of work and all signs point to us needing to navigate the pandemic for the long haul, so we’re going to need grit. We’re going to have to roll up our sleeves and jump in with tenacious persistence. And we’re going to need a growth mindset. We know more now than we did last year, and we are going to know more tomorrow than we did today. We are asking everyone to keep an open mind to new ways of doing things and changing the course when what we planned isn’t working like we had hoped. If we can find space for these virtues, we will find our way through this and come out better educators on the other side and our students will be the ones who benefit.”
