In their continuous implementation of positive behavior strategies, many of our schools recently began using a new Positive Behavior Staff Workshops model (secondary example, elementary example). Staff are collaborating, problem solving, and sharing advice about the nuances of technique that improve student-adult interactions.
This work is deeply connected to effective instruction. For example, many of the recent behavior workshop sessions focused on increasing Opportunities to Respond (OTRs). Because of the districts' work on LETRS/the Science of Reading, they wanted to increase OTRs to benefit literacy instruction, but OTRs are also a highly effective way to prevent disruptive behavior. Win-win! 🏆🏆
