Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) is a service area defined by two areas of instructional support.
The term Developmental focuses on the outcomes to be achieved by the student as a result of participation in the physical education program. Each student’s unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development is considered when determining how the outcomes are to be achieved.
The term Adapted focuses on individualizing the instruction process. Instructional adaptations include selecting the setting and environment; determining the pace of instruction; providing appropriate independent and guided practice; and modifying equipment. Expectations relate to rules for participation and evaluation are defined for each activity.

The DAPE Challenge
The 2019 DAPE Challenge was hosted by Pine City. It's a great field trip for the students; they enjoy traveling to a different school in the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED) each spring. Students like practicing for the events and wearing t-shirts with school colors or logos; some of the students wear their school's team jerseys. Pine City High School students led nine activities which included the long jump, softball throw, Frisbee toss, snap bowling, and soccer kick. Students are excited to participate along with other DAPE students in the area. They love being a part of the DAPE celebration! The photos below were provided by Darla Beckmann.
