Communication

Development of communication skills plays a critical role in students’ ability to participate in learning (e.g., engaging in class discussions), and it also impacts students’ social-emotional development.

Students with intensive communication needs (including students with a Speech Language Impairment) work with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs).

SLPs screen students to gauge their level of need, provide pre-referral consultation, evaluate students at school, provide direct services to students, and provide indirect services (i.e., working with teachers). They also provide support and consultation with parents, community partners, and regular education teachers.
