Assessment

assessment

🎥 What does it mean? Assessment is the process of gathering evidence, aligned to a specific purpose, which is used to make educational decisions that improve the learning conditions for all students.

Assessments are designed for specific purposes, and assessment results should be used according to the intended purpose and the level of specificity of the information produced. In order to be useful, assessment tools also need to be valid and reliable.

How Assessment Operates

Here are some quick basics:

  • FastBridge (K-12) and TS GOLD (PreK) are important assessment platforms that our districts use.
  • Universal Screening Packet: What universal screening measures are used in our member districts, when, and in which grade levels? This includes Early Warning Systems (EWS).
  • Target and Rate of Improvement (ROI) Packet: Provides norms that interventionists and SpEd staff use to set progress monitoring goals. Educators reviewing universal screening data also reference this packet to verify the cutoffs for different performance ranges.

Types of Assessment

Learn about the different types of assessment that are used in our districts:

Measurement Committee

The Measurement Committee (running agenda) is a cross-district group of principals, curriculum directors, assessment coordinators, etc. that gathers about a week prior to the fall, winter, and spring testing windows. They provide input re: what assessments are being administered, when, and to whom. These meetings are also an opportunity to ask and answer assessment-related questions.
